Romantic Destinations: Pisa, in Tuscany for a Romantic Vacation
Let’s face it, every place is nice and romantic to my eyes if I’m with the right person! I can recall so many romantic destinations but none of them is really special without a special person…..
There’s something very special and magical about Pisa. It’s not just because of the Leaning Tower, or of the all the beautiful buildings of the Miracle’s Square. It’s not because of the ancient athmosphere…. It’s because of all of these and much more…
I’ve been in Pisa several times, and every one I couldn’t help being breathless as soon as I reached the Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo, also called Piazza dei Miracoli o Miracles’ Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site). It’s simply wonderful! I know many other beautiful places, but this one is my favourite: I don’t think there’s any other place built by man in the whole world so great….. Every time the weather is really beautiful, the sky crystal blue, the grass perfectly green and all those huge buildings are so white that my eyes ache. I might have been very lucky, but I really believe it’s always sunny in Pisa. Unfortunately every time the photos I take do not make any justice…..
I visited the Leaning Tower and the neighbouring cathedral and baptistery many a time years ago. When I went again in Pisa 3 months ago I decided not to get inside the Tower. The visit is really interesting, but the ticket was a little too expensive for our low budget and honestly I did not feel like walking up all those stairs anymore (I promise next time I’ll go on a diet before our romantic getaway!). One thing that really struck me was about our lunch. We decided not go to a restaurant for lunch, but to only have a panino, saving our money and time for a nice, romantic dinner. Well aware that some places often take advantage of poor tourits needs, and afraid of spending a disproportionate sum, we looked for a place not too near the Miracle’s Square but weren’t able to find any typical. We then decided to have our “panini” in a shop just before the Leaning Tower (what the hell, we live only once!!!). Well, we bought 2 really giant panini filled with an incredibly amount of “porchetta”, a delicious pork roast (you must try it, but must try it only in Tuscany!!), we also got 2 bottles of water and some sweets. We only spent some 7 euros (some 10 Dollars): believe me, those panini were really very big (and extremely good!). So I must admit that regardless of what I thought, the people there is very honest.
The very mild weather, the beautiful spots full of history, the delicious food and some cheap and unique souvenirs taken in nearby shops made us to be very happy, rested and willing to have a very romantic dinner.
We then moved to Lucca, but this is another story….. :p
I managed to find the Panini Shop with Googlle maps and took the picture of it. Here you can find so many delicious typical products!!

This shop is just in front of the Grand Hotel Duomo: few steps ahead and you are in front of Piazza dei Miracoli!
